NL - INTERNATIONAAL FESTIVAL VAN FOTOGRAFIE VAN KNOKKE - "WONDERLAND". Het Internationaal Fotofestival van Knokke-Heist is dit jaar aan haar 33e editie toe. Het thema van deze editie is ontdekkingsreizen en draagt dan ook de titel ‘Wonderland’. Zes internationale fotografen werden uitgenodigd om verschillende reeksen van hun werk op het festival te tonen. Dit zijn Corey Arnold (VS), Gerdo De Ruijter (Nederland), Olaf Otto Becker (Duitsland), Sanna Kannisto (Finland), Michael Light (VS) en Ruud van Empel (Nederland). Hun werk wordt getoond op een buitententoonstelling en een aantal binnententoonstellingen. Hun foto’s vormen een ontdekkingsreis die de bezoeker meeneemt van de vlakten van Nederland, naar de diepe jungle van Brazilië en Costa Rica, een vissersboot op de Beringzee, adembenemende ijsvlakten in Groenland en een tocht door de ruimte. De binnenlocaties voor deze editie zijn het Cultuurcentrum Knokke-Heist (waar men de tentoonstellingen World Press Photo ’11, Internationale Fotowedstrijd en Photoview kan bezoeken), Museum Sincfala en de indrukwekkende Magritte zaal van het Casino Knokke.

La station balnéaire devient ainsi une nouvelle fois la plateforme effervescente de l’innovation, de l’expérience et des contacts animés dans le domaine de la photographie. Cette année, différents photographes font de notre commune leur champ d’action. Ils touchent ainsi un grand nombre de professionnels et d’amateurs de photographie. Le Festival International de la Photographie de Knokke-Heist rivalise avec les festivals de taille moyenne en Europe, comme FORMAT à Derby, le Festival de la Photographie de Breda aux Pays-Bas ou FOTOTEST à Berlin. A travers l’histoire, l'homme a toujours entrepris de longues expéditions pour voir et comprendre le monde. Des objectifs de nature économique, scientifique ou religieuse ont incité des individus aventureux à explorer l’inconnu. Qu’il s’agisse du premier homme à avoir quitté son cadre de vie, de Marco Polo qui explore l’Asie au 13ème siècle ou d’une sonde spatiale qui gagne un autre système solaire, les voyages de découverte nous ont de tout temps inspirés. Aussi, ils constituent le point de départ par excellence du Festival International de la Photographie de Knokke-Heist, édition 2012. Différents photographes vous font découvrir le monde le long d'un itinéraire cycliste. Nous survolons non seulement les plaines de nos voisins du nord, mais nous nous rendons aussi au plus profond de la jungle du Brésil et du Costa Rica, et nous naviguons sur un bateau de pêche en direction de la mer de Béring. Nous marchons sur les champs de glace fascinants du Groenland, puis nous nous éloignons le temps d’un voyage dans l’espace. Ce n’est pas pour rien si le Festival International de la Photographie de Knokke-Heist porte le nom de ‘Wonderland’. Six photographes internationaux ont été invités à présenter différentes séries de leur œuvre au festival. Il s’agit de Corey Arnold (Etats-Unis), Gerdo De Ruijter (Pays-Bas), Olaf Otto Becker (Allemagne), Sanna Kannisto (Finlande), Michael Light (Etats-Unis) et Ruud van Empel (Pays-Bas). En 2012, le Festival International de la Photographie de Knokke-Heist se compose d’une exposition à l’extérieur et de plusieurs expositions à l’intérieur. Celles-ci se tiennent au Centre culturel de Knokke-Heist, au Musée Sincfala et au Casino de Knokke.

Every year Knokke-Heist organises the International Photo Festival and this year is no different. As a result our seaside resort will once again become a lively platform for innovation, experimentation and contacts in the field of photography. This year several photographers have agreed to use our municipality as their field of activity, reaching a large number of photography professionals and people who love photography. The International Photo Festival Knokke-Heist can easily compete with other medium-sized European festivals such as FORMAT in Derby, the Breda Photo Festival in the Netherlands or FOTOFEST in Berlin. Throughout history people have undertaken long voyages with the purpose of discovering and understanding the world. Economic, scientific or religious purposes drove these adventurers and explorers into the unknown. These expeditions have always been a source of inspiration for us, whether we think of early civilizations leaving their immediate surroundings, Marco Polo exploring Asia in the thirteenth century or a spacecraft travelling to another solar system. As a result they make an ideal starting point for the 2012 International Photo Festival Knokke-Heist. This year several photographers will take you on an expedition around the world along a cycling trail. We have chosen not to limit ourselves to the plains of our northern neighbours. Instead we will also foray deep into the jungle of Brazil and Costa Rica and head out to the Bering Sea on a crab fishing boat. We will hike across the breath-taking ice sheets of Greenland and then soar into space for a different view of earth. That is why the title of this year’s International Photo Festival Knokke-Heist was aptly named ‘Wonderland’. We have invited six leading international photographers to show several series of their work at the festival, i.e., Corey Arnold (United States), Gerco De Ruijter (the Netherlands), Olaf Otto Becker (Germany), Sanna Kannisto (Finland), Michael Light (United States) and Ruud van Empel (the Netherlands). The 2012 International Photo Festival Knokke-Heist consists of an outdoor exhibition and several indoor exhibitions, at the Knokke-Heist cultural centre, Museum Sincfala and Casino Knokke.
